5Super Affordable Hard Drive  Nov 23, 2008
This hard drive is awesome! I fought with my 300GB hard drive for almost 2 years and ended up having to reformat several times. I did research and decided on the WD Caviar. I plan on ordering another one of these after Christmas when I have more funds. It was a cinch to install and it's quiet and fast. I love it!

1I hate Western Digital! Bought 2 drives - 4months ltr one dead!  Oct 27, 2008
I built my 'super computer' a year ago with two of these drives. I have used Maxtor drives for the past 20 years with NO problems. I decided to try WD because of the price and recommendations. Built my desktop beast with screaming Intel Dual Core plus 4GB ram (a lot at the time), 500 Meg Video, two 500gb WD drives. Everything was fine until only 4 months ... my main drive began clicking. Boot would see the drive but windows XP did not! I was mortified!!!!! I tried everything but could no longer access the drive!!!! So my success rate with Western Drives is 50% which is horrible!
My success rate with Maxtor drives (I have owned over ten) is 100%. This does not speak well for WD.

I tried to get support for this drive and couldn't get any. They said I could get my money back. I WANTED MY DATA BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Western Digital - Never again.................

4works well, included software helps  Oct 03, 2008
It seems like after a couple of years no matter what you had before you always outgrow your hard drive. I had put together a computer for home use a few years ago (P4) with a sata 1 motherboard. I was too cheap at the time to do Sata and did a 120gb eied drive instead. It worked OK but was getting full of pictures and I was experimenting with video, and my son started putting on 5 and 10 gb games. I replaced the drive with this new Sata2 drive with only a couple of glitches. It turns out you need to uninstall office 2007, use the included copy software to coppy the drive, and then reinstall office 2007. The copy protect makes office not work quite right and I could not uninstall it and reinstall it after it was copied onto the new drive. Fortunately all the files for outlook worked once I reinstall Office. And my Office 2007 boots up at least 2x faster. The other glitch was I needed to use the jumper they supplied to make it SATA1 for my motherboard. They tell you what you need to do and then tell you wont have to because it is automatic (not). All in all it gives me pleanty of space and my system boots and runs a lot faster.

4Fair price - works as advertised - received it very fast  Sep 22, 2008
Got this very fast

These caviar hard drives seem to be reliable. I have a 350 and two 250mb that are almost 2 years old and two 250mb that are almost a year old and two 500mb that are over a month old. So far so good

5Flawless Hard Drive  Sep 11, 2008
A very quiet hard disk, with a lot of space, and its really fast, it offers fast access to files.
