4Works (with SkypeOut too!)  Apr 23, 2008
I have to wonder about some of these previous reviewers.. have they even checked the manual?

To clear up some misconceptions, YES it is possible to forward incoming Skype and PSTN (landline) calls to any outgoing number. It uses Skype to forward, so you will need SkypeOut credits if it's going to a non-Skype contact. Just type 00, country code, phone number (ex. 0018001111111).

YES, it is possible to use SkypeOut from your landline phone. Just type ## then type in the number in the same format as before, and type # again to connect.

I got this particular adapter for one reason, and that's the ability to forward my landline calls to any number. I can have my landline calls transfer to my cell phone if I don't pick up. None of the other adapters have this function.

I wanted to transfer my incoming landline calls to a different Skype account (not on the same computer). It does that fine, but my second Skype line uses some software to act like a PBX system, and won't recognize the tones when I punch a key. Too bad.

Keep in mind that USRobotics has some of the most unresponsive support. The adapter works well, but be prepared to do your own troubleshooting if you run into any problems.

4Does almost everything it says with one minor glitch  Dec 18, 2007
I originally thought this device would allow me to make skypeout calls but it kinda does. In order for me to make outbound calls via skype I would have to set them up as a speed dial number. other than that it does exactly as it is advertised to do, which is connect both VOIP and land lines in an easy to use self powered appliance. My only gripe after having it for a couple months, the box occasionally needs a reset (disconnected and reconnect) because the VOIP doesn't ring through.

1pretty bad  Aug 04, 2007
I have lost $70! And not happy about it. This thing is constantly dropping the calls, that is when it wants to work. Also, deceptive advertising: you can use your phone to call through Skype directly ONLY WITH THE NUMBERS THAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR CONTACT LIST! Which they don't tell you in the advertising. So if you call numbers that are not in you contact list, as I do most of the time, forget about it.
I got this through Amazon from another seller that made it so complicated and costly to return the item that I gave up, and each time I am trying to use it again, another problem arises. Hope that's enough. First time I write a review like this, but first time I feel ripped of like this.

1Flat out awful  Jul 13, 2007
I am an electrical engineer by trade and I couldn't get this device to work. First off the original drivers just didn't work at all. After installing the new drivers (several times) I finally got it to give me a dial tone however it would not allow me to dial out.

Upon further research (reading the manual) I found out that this skype phone adaptor *is not designed to allow you to dial out*! Now I don't know what type of idiot at USRobotics thought an adaptor box didn't need to allow someone to dial out... but they designed it that way. What they allow is for you to use skype's speed-dial feature. This is a very poor compromise for being able to just pick up the phone and dial a phone number! That means you have to memorize your speed dial list and then punch it into the phone attached to the adaptor box. If you don't memorize it or want to call a non-speed dialed number you have to go to your computer and call from skype.

And BTW, while I read in the manual how it is *supposed* to work, I could never get the speed dial feature to work!

Ok... so that means I have to dial using my computer and then everything's fine, right? WRONG! Skype for some reason would randomly hang up on me somewhere between 30 seconds and 4 minutes when I'm talking on the phone using this box. Updated skype, updated drivers, read instructions, everything.

And finally, the last straw, technical support is non-existent.

Rarely have I been so pissed off at any product I've purchased, but this product *should* be a simple thing to design and build and yet USRobotics has done a flat out awful job of it. I way over paid for this thing and I'm going to throw it away and the "Eforcity Adaptor", which is sold on Amazon for half the price and has so far received 7x5* reviews.

Please do not buy this product. Companies that product stuff this bad should go out of business.

1USRobotics USB Telephone Adapter (NAM)  Mar 12, 2007
A waste of time and money. Old driver or new, this US Robotics USB Telephone Adapter for Skype has never worked. We spent a lot of money on its purchase, too. USRobotics does not respond to support requests. The product is disappointing. Even though Skype "recommends" this product, opt for the competitor's adapter if you can. This product simply does not work and its manufacturer does not appear to stand behind what it sells. [...].
