I've bought two Satellite laptops, and both have had their batteries fail within two years. One of them won't keep a charge for more than a few minutes, and sometimes powers off when you disconnect the AC power; the other sometimes just shuts down at the slightest movement. When we called the tech support, they didn't mention that the batteries were subject to recall; now I just found out, and Toshiba won't process the recall. I don't know if the problems are battery related, since it'll cost $500 to have Toshiba diagnose the problem. That's right, FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS once it's out of warranty.

The screen on the newer laptop - just two years old - has gone funky, with some horizontal lines.

They both run somewhat warm, with the fan going nonstop.

As you can tell, these are my last Toshiba laptop purchases. It's great value for the first year, so enjoy!

I picked up mine at Circuit City, display model, talked them down $60 to $630.oo, I really like the size of the screen and the the power, everything I have installed has gone without a hitch, and have had no problems at all. Very sturdy model, although it is a little heavy, but that's O.K. I didn't realize until yesterday that it had labelflash built in, an added bonus.

4Computer great, Vista not  Apr 09, 2008
I have been very pleased with this computer. My family and I decided replacing an old desktop PC with this laptop. We love the features on this unit and the quickess, but un-happy with Vista problems. Working with Microsoft on update problem and also developed another problem in which the computer will not acknowledge non-adminstrator profiles. Hopefully after I fix the update problem and load Service pak 1 for vista we will be back up to speed.

3Toshiba Satellite P205D-S8812 17" Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-64 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premiu  Mar 26, 2008
Very fuctional and sturdy. I have bought 3 laptops this year and most of them have the worst keyboards imaginable. All things being equal nothing compares to a MAC but not all the programs are available or if they are they are expensive. That being said, if you are stuck with VISTA and all the annoyances, this is a great laptop for the price. Nothing stands out except it is sturdier than the comparable DeLL and HP models.

I have trouble with laptops that are not sturdy and this one has a great metal keyboard, not the plastic like HP and dell that fade and fall off. It really makes me sick that they sell these cheapo keyboards however I have to give Toshiba credit for keyboard and that is a big deal to me. Otherwise, it is pretty much standard fair - when you are stuck with Microsoft, not much else that can be done.

As a person who sells on Ebay for a living and living in pricey Northern California, being able to read what you are typing is a real plus. Even if I could put another keyboard on my laptops, when I am traveling I want to travel as light as possible. It has to be sturdy, light and not have keys that will fall off which has happened on my last two laptops usually the most common key held with a plastic only and always the letters and numbers fade increasing the annoyance factor. I haven't had this long but the metal keys seem far superior to Dell and HP plastic versions for people who don't use them much I suppose.

5great laptop and a great price  Mar 14, 2008
This laptop is AWESOME......love the extra RAM and the large hard drive. It is fast and does anything you could want. The only bad part was the battery life...but you have shorter battery life with any 17".
I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a larger laptop
