Good little speakers, low battery life May 09, 2008 I purchased these speakers to use at my desk with my XM radio. They work fine for that because I don't need them to be very loud, and so I can leave the speakers internal amplifier off, and they will play quietly in the background. If you want to get more sound out of them, then you will need to have to AAA batteries. The sound is good, and considering it's only 2 AAA's it really isn't too bad there either. I have seen similar speakers that require as little as 4 AA's, or as much as 4 D batteries. I would reccommend however that you get rechargeable batteries.
Short cord, batteries needed, bad sound Feb 28, 2008 Not worth the $5 I paid for them on sale at Target. The cord is so short it keeps falling off the table as I move my laptop around. It takes batteries--and gives poor quality sound.
Do not recommend.

Works great! Oct 04, 2007 I'm surprised how loud it is. Perfect for my notebook and mp3/mp4 player. Without turning on the power it can still deliver loud and good quality sound. I can also turn on the power to boost weak sound, with plenty of bass (although it doesn't compare to my 200W PC speaker with subwoofer, which I use with my Kurzweil). The only complaint is the tight active/passive switch. It gets stuck in a position that no active nor passive sound comes out. But then, I hardly need to turn the power on, so I'll just keep it in off.
The speakers has low impedence, so some low voltage devices may not be able to drive it and will require the power boost to be on.

I returned these speakers... Feb 02, 2007 The volume of these speakers was very low and I was surprised at how easily they distorted. The bass was very poor as well. I've returned them, and after restocking fees and shipping both ways, this transaction was a money loser.
I purchased a set of Logitech speakers instead, and love them!

Wow Jan 10, 2007 OMG these speakers are really great considering how small they are, and the price. Much better than the speakers in my MacBook.
