Great Product But Not Perfect Aug 15, 2008
The Slingbox is pretty amazing, don't get me wrong. The "pros" are well expressed here in various reviews and I love it, but it has a few shortcomings as well.
The built-in analog tuner will only give you channels 2-68 if you decide to attach it to the coaxial cable inline between the wall and the cable-box or the tv. The advantage is that you can change channels remotely without interfering with the viewing on the local tv; the disadvantage is that you may lose some of the upper channels that may be part of your basic cable package.
The price of the PRO over the AV is fairly significant. If you don't need the tuner or need to attach more devices than just the cable tv, go the Slingbox AV route even though the "wizard" on the sling website tells you you need the PRO. I tried a entering even the most basic needs and it will always recommend the more expensive PRO unit.

I investigated this product about a year ago when I anticipated traveling and wanted to see my local news and sports. I moved also and found that it would be very expensive to have wiring installed in a rental property in order to have access where I wanted to locate my home office, I checked into Slingbox again. After hearing a presentation by David Pogue, I asked him what he thought of Slingbox. I was concerned about some problems expressed by users with other IR devices interfering with the signal. He said he loved his and if you have a problem just change the phone nearest to the signal to a different megahertz phone. I ordered from Amazon that night and actually received it the next day. Connected, no interference problem, love, love, love it!! Clear instructions,clear packaging, just make sure you really push the IR connection all the way in. It's almost a two step push. I'm watching the local news as I type this. Best thing I've bought for my computer in years.

For the price, this is worth it. I work in many remote locations without TV or american TV. This product gives me TV wherever I am in the world, as long as I have internet. The picture quality is not great unless you have a really good internet connection on both ends, but it is better than no tv at all. I love the fact that there is no monthly fees. Sling media support was very helpful in helping me get everything set up, they did it remotely. Well worth the price.

The functionality of the Slingbox Pro is great. It was very easy to set up and the help menus walked me through any questions that I had that weren't covered by their quick start guide.
It's great to be able to access my cable tv through the laptop wherever I go, or at home.
What didn't meet my expectations is the video quality. I have a high resolution screen on a macbook pro and mistakenly expected to see better quality video using the Slingbox Pro. The picture is a bit fuzzy and text is not all that easy to read. It's definitely not the DVD experience.
