1Very Loud Noise Coming from HD  Dec 14, 2008
After purchasing my IOMEGA Ultramax 500GB HD just over 3 months ago, I have been very unimpressed by the level of noise coming from the HD. I purchased this HD specifically to use with Apple's Time Machine as it already comes formatted for this. One problem is Time Machine backs up every hour on the hour and the HD was filling up pretty quickly, so I decided to turn the HD off and back up once a week instead. After the first week of being turned off I turned the HD on and it sounded like a jet engine running with bolts being thrown into it!! I read other posts about loud noises from the unit, but this is way too much. I am contacting IOMEGA to warranty this piece of junk. By a Western Digital--I wish I had!

2Iomega UltraMax 500 GB Desktop Hard Drive  Nov 17, 2008
There were no instructions included with this hard drive, and so it is sitting on the desk and my files are still not backed up. I'm waiting for my IT daughter to visit so she can set it up. Disappointing.

5A perfect hard drive for any mac user!  Nov 13, 2008
This external hard drive is amazing, at first when I saw the box I was like 'Holy crap, there is no way there's a hard drive in there with a 500 GB storage. It is tiny! In my opinion I would have liked it a tiny bit bigger and chunkier but because of the size it is very portable. The firewire could not have been faster. Regularly it would take me 5-10 minutes just to put a couple of songs onto my mac HD. This took 20 min to put my massive collection of 4300 songs! It is extremely quite, sometimes I forgot it's even there. When you are using it there is a blue light that turns on but a white light that always is on. The firewire cable is pretty short but I am fine with it. It is funny how similar it looks to the mac pro. A nice stand comes with it which fits the hard drive perfectly. A perfect hard drive for any mac user!

4Iomega UltraMax 500 GB  Nov 05, 2008
I received a Iomega UltraMax 500 GB hard drive from Amazon. It was connected to a Apple MacBook running Time Machine.
It started running just fine. But after four hours if failed. It was tried in both FW 400 & USB modes on several computers but would not connect. Amazon was contacted and they sent a replacement at no charge, arriving in 3 days.
The replacement unit has been working now for about one month and is working excellent.

Thanks much to Amazon for there excellent assistance..

4big bang for the buck.   Nov 04, 2008
Reliable, quiet drive which happens to look great. I had problems with other brands involving data loss and unpredictable response. No problems with the three UltraMax 500 drives I own.
