5Excellent budget notebook  Sep 22, 2008
I got this notebook after my desktop PC died. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the Compaq Presario F755. As far as notebooks go, this one is a no-frills basic notebook. While it has 3 USB ports, it's missing a PCI-Express slot, Firewire as well as the HP dock adaptor. As long as you don't have a need for these interfaces, this notebook is fine.

The only complaint I have is the display doesn't render colors in great fidelity when compared to my HP w1907 monitor. You'll need to either calibrate the display using the NVidia tools, or use a color calibration tool. So, if you plan on doing any image editing on this notebook, be aware of display differences.

Otherwise, excellent value and great performance for the price!

1Review of Compaq service  Sep 19, 2008
This is not a review of this specific model but of Compaq service. I purchased a Presario F762NR four months ago. The screen has now failed. I returned it to Compaq for repair and they refuse to honor the warranty unless I buy an additional warranty. The cost to replace the screen is $2 less than what I paid for the laptop. I have owned many Compaq products in the past and currently have 4 in the house. Compaq service used to be excellent; things have changed. I will no longer purchase any Compaq product and recommend that you consider the risks involved.

Compaq Presario F755US 15.4" Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-58 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium). Excelent and very good price

4excellent computer  Apr 23, 2008
Looked at all reviews before purchasing. For me personally, this was an excellent choice for the price. The computer boots relatively fast, works well for the 1gig memory installed. The only draw back is a lot of the installed programs on Vista are trialware. This sucks as you have to buy the key at the end of the trial which pretty much negates the savings on the PC. Will probably uninstall and install the programs from my other pc.
The W\ Less networking was also easy to set up with Vista. All in all I wa s pretty pleased with the purchase and would recommend this product for any future buyers.

3NOISE PROBLEM  Apr 13, 2008
This is an OK notebook for the price, but mine developed an annoying buzzing noise after a week of light use (maybe a problem with the CPU fan). The noise now exists whenever it is turned on an is loud enough to get "shush" glances from people in the library. COMPAQ support was initially evasive and in denial, but eventually agreed to accept for repair. Otherwise, has been a good performer - I got rid of Norton and other bloatware. Excellent screen, OK battery life. Hopefully noise problem will be repaired.
