Get the power of a full-sized laptop in the ultra-compact ASUS Eee PC 2G Surf, which offers a full QWERTY keyboard, 7-inch screen, and preinstalled Linux operating system. (This laptop is also compatible with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.) You'll be able to stay connected to email and the Internet easily thanks to the Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g). The 2G Surf comes in a number of colors: blush pink, galaxy black, sky blue, and lush green.
For the students and professionals, the Eee PC comes with a powerful selection of software to maximize personal productivity--over 40 built-in applications. The Open Office suite of software enables the user to open, edit and create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and databases that are compatible with Microsoft Office. For journalists, photographers and other professionals who need to use a computer in the field to create, to communicate and to collaborate with other colleagues, the Eee PC's combination of power, extreme portability and rugged build makes it the ideal computing solution.

It's also a great choice for young students, with a built-in Dictionary that's great for homework, and it includes two modes of intuitive graphic user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC also handles your digital images, movies, and music as well as Internet radio.

No technical manual required with the specially designed, user-friendly, and intuitive graphic interface.
Compact and highly portable at just 32 ounces, the Eee PC 2G has a 7-inch wide color TFT LCD with an 800 x 480-pixel resolution (WXGA). Under the hood is a 800 MHz Intel Mobile CPU with integrated Intel graphics processor, 512 MB of RAM (not expandable), and 2 GB of solid-state flash memory. With the dependable solid-state disk, you get unparalleled shock-protection and reliability. In addition to its wireless LAN, it also offers wired Fast Ethernet (10/100) connectivity. The Eee PC includes software for Web browsing (Firefox), email, OpenOffice 2.0 for creating and editing word processing documents and spreadsheets, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track.

You get three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output for connecting to external monitors, headphone and microphone jacks, and a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot. The Eee PC measures 8.9 x 6.5 x 1.4 inches, and it weighs 32 ounces. The 4-cell, 4400 mAh battery provides up to 2.8 hours of battery life (depending on usage). 5Simple and Easy  Oct 12, 2008
Certainly easy to use, despite never having used a similar operating system. Its built in wireless card has a very good range, and picks up networks my desktop didn't know existed. Very handy for use in a college setting, as it lighter than my notebooks and smaller as well. If I'm carrying around 3 textbooks I don't want something bulky or heavy. Great for the simplest of things: notes, homework, and internet. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone's primary computer, but it's really handy in traveling and around campus.

Screen size is small, but that's easy to get used to. Keyboard is small as well, but that's also pretty easy to adjust to.

All in all, a great deal for a laptop to take care of your basic needs.

4Great item for the price  Oct 06, 2008
I am enjoying my Asus EEE pc. I am still getting use to the small keyboard but other than that I love it. It is so small and portable I can take it anywhere. There is a problem with the battery life though. For me it did not last more than 30 minutes so I would suggest you take the power cord with you and look for an outlet wherever you go. The software package that come with it are equivalent to what you would use from Microsoft. I will eventually have to load windows xp because it is difficult to add other software programs to this linux os system or sometimes to even view certain graphics online that require a download or plugin.

4Does what I want it to do  Oct 06, 2008
I bought this computer because it's cheap, small and light. I needed something portable to write class papers on. The ASUS is what I got and it does what I want it to do. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Accessory Recommendation: I recommend buying an SD card to store your files on. They are cheap, will save your memory and make transferring files easy. You can get them at almost any department store or electronics store. Amazon has very good prices on SD cards too.

1Eee won't connect to Wireless  Oct 05, 2008
I'm pretty sure mine is going back. I've been under the dreadful "pending status" now all but a few seconds. I don't have time for this type of stress. Will be shipping it back and either waiting or going with something that doesn't have these bugs.

5It's small, it's fast enough and gosh, it's darn cute  Oct 03, 2008
I bought this little thing because I was headed to Europe for a little vacation and I had just enrolled in an online course. I wanted light weight and small and at just about 2lbs it fit very nicely in my backpack. I wanted something that started up quickly (average time so far is just 26 seconds plus another 15 to find and connect to wireless) so I was happy to have it running Linux. It really works well (so far) in fact now that I am home it sits on the kitchen counter so I can log on with my first cup of coffee and get my email.

Are there any dislikes? It does get a little warm and the keyboard is small but I don't touch type very fast anyway so no problem. I attached a mini USB mouse and that really helps as the touch pad is small too (although big enough, really). I even watched a movie I had loaded on my USB thumb drive and it was great!. So if you want a second computer to just have available whenever, its a good solution.
